What we’ve learned since becoming parents:
- Makenzie can be doing something cute that needs to be caught on camera but as soon as we get out the camera, she stops and stares at us as if to say, “I am not your show pony.”
- We are firm believers that velcro would be better than all those snaps on sleepers. Snap just one wrong and you mess up the whole outfit.
- Drool, spit-up and poop are no longer cause for gagging, alarm or even hand-washing.
- There is snot. Lots of snot.
- These small humans come with tons of stuff. Our family room looks like we set up a midget carnival.
- Everything goes into the mouth. And then the fingers go into your mouth.
- Quickly stopping at the store isn’t even a possibility anymore.
- Even little girls can pee on you; it’s not just a boy thing.
- When I get a chance to sit down and read a book, I tend to keep reading the same paragraph over and over. I don’t think I will ever be able to finish a novel again.
- Hot food is over rated anyway.
- Larry needs to understand not to take the diaper capacity thing seriously. The weight limit is for the baby, not for the stuff inside the diaper. Those limits should not be tested.
- If there is an outfit I really want Makenzie to wear, the minute I put it on her she will spit up on it or blow out the backside.
- It is ok to sing silly songs in the car to entertain the baby. It is NOT ok to continue singing those songs when the baby is not with you.
- When the baby giggles out loud, every stress and worry in the world slips away.
- For all the dirty diapers, spit-up covered clothes, and sleepless nights that no one told us about there is also this: We love our precious baby girl more fiercely and more completely than we have ever loved before and we are so blessed.This parenting stuff may not always be the easiest job we’ve ever had, but it’s the most rewarding.
